This
is the part of the story where I started to falter...Originally I had
planned to take a breather and relax a little once I finished Adamstown
and Denver. I knew that after six days of hitting it hard I'd be
zapped...three days of running the 2013 National floor...a day of running
thru Indiana's Antique Alley...another day of Springfield Ohio plus
driving 450 miles...then hitting Adamstown hard...that made six days of go
go go...and that doesn't even include the flight from California getting
to the National...so it was really 7 plus days of wide open throttle! So
the original plan was to take it easy that Sunday afternoon after
finishing Adamstown...I
thought I might find a park somewhere and take an hour or so nap then head
off for the one hour drive to Philadelphia. Once in Philly I was looking
forward to one of those Philly cheese steaks at Jim's Steaks on South
Street that I had on my 2007
National road trip...From there it would be off on another hour drive
to the Seaview Resort in Galloway N.J. The plan was I'd get to Seaview
late evening. Once at Seaview it would be R&R time and take in the
area...
However...right
before I left California I got a call from Corey Leiby that he wouldn't be able
to see me the day we had planned, being Tuesday...So we switched it to
Sunday afternoon after Adamstown...There was no other
time...Phew!...Well...There just wasn't any way I was going to be that
close to Corey's place and not see his collection....so hook or crook I
was going to make it happen...I changed my plan and drove the hour north to Orwigsburg
PA that Sunday afternoon. You've already seen Corey's great collection as my
finale of the National coverage...by the time I finished shooting his
collection it was 9:30 or 10:00PM and I left for the hour and a half drive
to Galloway...and right about Philly it started to hit me...exhaustion!...with
still another hour to go...
DRAG
RACING IN PHILLY AT 1:00am
Then
I got a courtesy pick me up thanks to some hot rod'er on the freeway as I
was passing
thru Philly...There I was driving along minding my own business at one
o'clock in the morning and here comes this guy in a BMW hot rod with blaring
pipes....pulls along side me gunning it...pulls away...comes
back....pulls away...comes back...revving his engine trying to get me to
race...It's one o'clock in the morning...I'm exhausted...and all I want to do is get to
my hotel and here's this guy trying to race me...Obviously the red camaro convertible
was a challenge he couldn't ignore...I'm think'n oh man go away leave me
alone...just get me to my hotel...I completely
ignored him like I didn't even know he was there....finally after a while he left...
So
that perked me up a little but pretty soon I just couldn't take it...I was
less than a half hour from the Seaview but I couldn't make it any
further...I pulled into a rest island type deal and went to sleep...So
there I was in a bright red camaro in a dark parking just outside Atlantic City at two in the morning...just
asking to get held up...or shot...but the Lord was with me...I slept soundly for a half hour and took off...By
the time I got to the hotel it was probably 3:00AM...and by the time I
actually got into my room...unwound...sent the bellman down the street for
some Haagen-Dazs...and watched a little T.V. it was probably 4:30-5:00AM
before I got to sleep...
QUICK
SEAVIEW REST-UP
So
the next day was mostly gone before I even got up...around 1:00PM...But it
was time to get some rest not tearing it up as usual...I took a drive
around the area in the late afternoon...stopped at a couple lame antiques
stores...went back and had dinner at the hotel and that was my first day
at Seaview...So that night I was thinking about what I would go do the next
day...how I might drive up the New Jersey shore toward New York...or how I
might drive to Princeton to see their trophies...and all a sudden it dawned on me...I didn't have a next
day...I was suppose to be in Columbus OH the next night...wow did that
visit go by so fast...And that was my own fault...I should have planned to
leave on Wednesday....
GALLOWAY
N.J. TO COLUMBUS OH. ON I-70 - 44 FRAME SLIDE

So
the following morning I had breakfast in the main dinning room...then back
in the camaro...top down...driving thru Philly and off to Columbus OH. The
plan was I would stay in Columbus Tuesday night...Wednesday I would check out the antiques
stores around Columbus. Then Wednesday afternoon make the one hour drive to John Gennantonio's home in Cincinnati.
Get to John's by early Wednesday evening...Leave John's place by 10:00PM...drive to
Indianapolis and stay Wednesday night at the Alexander again...then drive
back to Chicago O'Hare and fly back to California Thursday afternoon.
